If you're browsing the site
- No accounts, no sign-up. You don't need to give us anything to use the directory, and we don't take bookings: enquiries go straight to the venues.
- Visit counts. We count how many times each venue page is viewed and how often its hire and enquiry links are clicked, as monthly totals, to report back to venues. This sets no cookies and stores nothing about you.
- Analytics and ads. If you agree to it in our cookie banner, we use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used, and Google AdSense shows ads on some pages. Both use cookies and similar technology, and Google may use them to personalise ads. If you don't agree, analytics and ads run without cookies or not at all. Your choice is stored for six months in a cookie called
cc_cookie, and you can change it at any time from "Cookie settings" in the footer. - Hosting and security. Our host, Cloudflare, processes your IP address and browser details to deliver the site and protect it from attacks. Our forms use Cloudflare Turnstile to check you're not a bot.
If you work for a venue
When you list your venue, or claim or upgrade a listing, we collect your name, job title, work email and phone number, and the wording of the declarations you agree to. We use them to:
- check that you work for the venue
- publish and manage your listing, and contact you about it
- send you a monthly report on how your listing is doing (full listings)
- keep a record of what you agreed to, in case of a dispute about photos or content
We rely on our legitimate interests in running an accurate directory for free listings and claims, and on our contract with your venue for paid listings. Your contact details aren't published. The enquiry email and phone number you ask us to show on a full listing are published, as are photo credits.
Payments are handled by Stripe. We never see your card details; we receive the payment status, billing email and subscription dates.
If you report a photo
If you email us about a photo, we use your details to investigate and reply, and we may tell the venue that a complaint was made. We take photos down within 2 working days while we look into it.Photo policy.
Who we share it with
Only the companies that run parts of the service for us:
- Cloudflare: hosting, database, photo storage, security and the admin sign-in
- GitHub: stores the published listings (venue details, not your contact details)
- Stripe: payments
- Google: analytics and ads, as described above
Some of these companies process data outside the UK, under UK adequacy regulations or standard contractual clauses. We don't sell personal information.
How long we keep it
- Photos from rejected submissions: deleted when we reject them.
- Photos removed from a listing: deleted when the listing is saved.
- New listing, claim and upgrade records, including the declarations: for as long as the listing is live and six years after it ends, so we can deal with any claim about its content and keep financial records.
- Visit counts: kept as totals; they contain no personal information.
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of the information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it, delete it or stop using it. Email hello@venuesofnote.com and we'll reply within a month. If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, you can complain to theInformation Commissioner's Office.
